If you order online now, you’ll be entitled to roadside assistance in the Netherlands in 48 hours and, provided you took this option, also in Europe.
We therefore advise you to take out breakdown cover at least 2 days before you’re due to depart. That way you avoid unforeseen charges.
For more information, check the General Terms and Conditions (in Dutch).
No, there are no additional charges if you break down. Not even if you need to be towed. If your vehicle needs to be fixed in a garage, you are responsible for the repair costs. Need a new battery? You can buy one on the spot and have it fitted by our Roadside Assistance employee.
In certain cases, we apply a surcharge:
- If you put the wrong fuel in your vehicle
- If you call on Roadside Assistance more than three times a year
- If you broke down in more than 2 different cars
- If your electric car drains its battery
Further information can be found in the General Terms and Conditions (in Dutch).

Breakdown Assistance is personalised. This means you’re entitled to breakdown assistance in any car (including vintage and electric vehicles) you drive or motorbike you ride. You’re entitled to breakdown assistance for two eligible vehicles per year. A surcharge will be applied from the third vehicle, regardless of what type of cover you have.
Exceptions to this are the ANWB Partnerpas and ANWB Jongerenpas. These passes are intended for your partner or child where they drive the family car unaccompanied. The pass entitles the driver to breakdown assistance in the eligible family car, i.e. the car whose vehicle registration number is recorded with us.
Cover is also provided in the Netherlands for any caravan/trailer or motorhome you have. You only need to apply for separate additional service for the caravan/trailer or your motorhome if you travel outside the Netherlands. This is needed to supplement the assistance packages with Europe-wide cover. This also applies to vehicles with rooftop tents. These vehicles are covered by the motorhome service.
Your chosen cover determines where you’re entitled to breakdown assistance. Roadside Assistance Netherlands cover entitles you to breakdown assistance throughout the Netherlands.
Standard Roadside Assistance or Complete Roadside Assistance cover entitles you to assistance if you break down where you live. That is ideal, since over 40% of breakdowns occur at home or where people live. Basic cover does not include breakdown assistance where you live.
